When I realized that I could teach my children basic early math, while also increasing their exposure to Spanish, AND do it all while having fun, everything in our homeschool shifted. While we still use a few workbooks here and there, lately we have been loving breaking up our homeschool lessons with these fun math games for kids. The best part? All of the fun games listed below work perfectly in a bilingual household.
There are a few things you need to look for with math games to work double duty for your learning at home. If you want to boost math and language skills with games, you need to find ones that are flexible with the language, and that easily let you translate as you go. Bonus points if they have the instructions in the other language, it saves time on translation!
All of these fun math games for kids have little to no English text on the cards. They are adaptable to fit any language, and some of them even have instructions in other languages to help you instantly know what words to use as you play.
I can’t even tell you how many times I have played Sleeping Queens in the last month! There is English on some of the cards, but it is easy to translate into any language. I also love that the instructions come in Spanish, which makes it super easy to play using a solid translation of terms. If you know or are learning basic addition, pairing, and number recognition – this game is a hit!
Recommended age: 8+ (but my 5 year olds LOVE it!)
Jump 1 is a great way to learn and practice sequential numbers! While the instructions are only in English, it is really easy to explain and translate to fit any bilingual home. I also love that you can keep going with this game to practice skip counting and teach your children to count by 2s, 3s, etc…as they progress.

As a teacher, I view this game as an absolute powerhouse when it comes to teaching basic math. Your children can learn SO much with just one game, and it can grow with them as their math skills grow. I also love that it works perfectly in any bilingual home since it has no text on the cards. We love using this math game to boost our Spanish language skills, while also practicing addition, logic skills, counting, and more. This is the first math game that my bilingual kids really fell in love with!

Have you ever played Spot it with your kids?! First of all, it is an amazing game to practice Spanish (or any language) with kids of all ages. Add in this numbers and shapes version of Spot it! and you’ve got the perfect game that works double. This is a great way to get your children speaking in another language as they call out the numbers and shapes they see.

Learning all about money? This game is an amazing way to practice your Spanish, while also learning about money and making change. We are just now starting to really learn about financial literacy at home and I am so happy to have this tool at home to help my kids learn while they play.
Recommended age: 5+
I can’t be the only one who struggled as a kid with fractions…right?! Fraction War is a fast-paced two-player game to help your children feel super confident with fractions. This is an amazing way to help reinforce any fraction lessons you’re doing at home, while also bringing in your language lessons.
